WHY IT MATTERS

After 14 years in this community, I’ve seen this community at its highs and its lows. I’ve seen it face tough issues and turn it around. However, one thing remains unchanged. When it come to racism and racial issues at large, the community as a whole seems unperturbed and unwilling to face the tension. Some don’t know how to approach it, scared of the problems and arguments that may arise. Others just don’t care. However, It’s clear that any type of resolution must start with these conversations. We must lean into discomfort in we want any real change. Until then, black students may continue to feel, silenced, erased, and undervalued. We want the Haverford's next generation(s) of black students to have a better, less stressful school experience
